Walford Park and Recreation Minutes
Regular Meeting Tuesday May 4th, 2021
Meeting called to order at 7:12 pm. Miner, Lane, Primmer present. Davis absent. 1 vacancy.
Motion by Miner to approve April 6th minutes. Seconded by Primmer. Approved unanimous.
Concession stand
Motion by Lane to award 2021 concession stand lease Pam Beatty. Approved unanimous.
Baseball - schedules & equipment
T-ball and mechanical pitch is underway
IVL schedules expected this week. Week of May 17 is start week. Final tournament completes before July 4.
Supplies inventory are in sufficient quantity.
Umpire conversation - payment
Motion by Miner to establish payment rates for IVL LL and PL umpires as follows:
$40 for home plate umpire
$30 for in field umpire
$45 for the case there is only one umpire
Seconded by Lane. Approved unanimous.
Batting cage net - options for installation being investigated. Motion by Primmer to approve up to $3200 to hire installation of new batting cage net. Seconded by Miner. Approved unanimous.
Fireworks
Motion to approve $6500 for fireworks display and $1000 for corresponding insurance coverage by Miner, seconded by Lane. Approved unanimous.
General Equipment/Grounds Maintenance
Concession stand interior requires renovation - inquiries on estimates and proposals to follow.
Small stepladder needed to open the overhead doors of concession stand.
Inquiry regarding purchase of new popcorn machine. Motion to approve up to $550 for a new popcorn machine for concession stand. Seconded by Primmer. Approved unanimous.
Noteworthy maintenance list:
Light bulbs or new fixtures are required in the interior of the concession stand
Light bulbs or new fixtures are required in the exterior picnic table area
Hose reels (not new, existing) are required immediately at each hydrant at each ball diamond
Soda cooler in concession stand is no longer functional, must be removed and disposed
Volleyball court is growing in and requires removal of grass/weeds from sand
Several patches of weeds are encroaching into the mulched areas of the city playgrounds
Lights on back wall of baseball equipment shed are broken and require new bulbs
Signage from Prairie School District - motion by Miner to approve installation of Prairie School sign at ball diamonds, seconded by Primmer. Motion failed, unanimous.
Update on wind management on the pickle ball court - recommendation is to proceed with wind screen instead of vinyl strips. Estimated cost is approximately $500. Will require yearly take-down in winter months. Motion by Primmer to approve up to $700 to procure wind screens for pickle ball court fencing. Seconded by Miner. Approved unanimous. Specs for product ID and dimensions will be provided by Primmer.
Motion to approve up to $500 to purchase a park bench to place alongside the pickle ball court by Lane, seconded by Miner. Approved unanimous. Bench to match the existing ones as installed at the ball diamond playground.
Citizen comments
Pickle ball assessment - Courts Fore Sports still to respond to inquiry. Tile is getting worse in performance and dead spots are increasing. Chairman Lane to contact Courts Fore Sports - Jason Miller for response. Also noted bicycle and skateboard traffic is driving on the pickle ball court despite signage.
Motion to adjourn by Primmer, seconded by Miner. Meeting adjourned 8:48 pm.
