Walford Park and Recreation Minutes
Regular Meeting Tuesday September 5th, 2023
Meeting called to order at 7:02pm. Miner, Hebert, Heber, Lane, and Davis present.
Motion to approve August 2023 minutes by Hebert, seconded by Lane. Approved unanimous.
Halloween party - discussion included inventory of existing supplies.
Walford Fun Days - Next event is scheduled for September 23. Report by Heber regarding Back to School Bash. Positive feedback from attendees. Free coffee provided by Grind Coffee. Would like to improve signage/advertising to build attendance at future events. Train parked and idling on the tracks did interrupt the yoga slightly. October event planned with the Lutheran church, and tentative plans for an event in November as well.
General equipment/grounds/maintenance
Dead ash tree and stump has now been removed.
Additional grading required around pickle ball court and basketball court.
Bench near the toddler swing in the City Park has been observed to be unsteady and unsafe, and requires warning tape until/or removal.
Main park picnic table paint is coming off and requires repainting.
Tree in SE corner of Knapp Creek park requires trimming as it is encroaching into private residents' yards.
Citizen comments
Question regarding rental and insurance and the possibility of waiving the deposit on the rental, and if a blanket deposit/rental agreement could be made for a longer period of time.
Question regarding garbage and the verbiage on the dumpster that indicates cardboard is not to go into the dumpster. Does this mean the refuse company can provide a recycling container if the verbiage on the dumpster is correct?
A citizen engaged a city maintenance staff person regarding weeds that were growing around the pickle ball court and was told by the maintenance person to contact the Parks and Rec Board.
Citizens asked if the Parks and Rec board has a 3 year plan for growth or replacement across the city parks assets, and would like to have some public visibility to the projects that may be planned for the 3 year period.
Citizen asked if city has a grant writer or knowledge of potentially available grants that could provide project funding.
Suggestion to consider a small awning if any further actions regarding Pickle Ball court additions occurs in the future.
Motion to adjourn by Miner. Seconded by Lane. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
